Bolton’s MechanEx show saw Dave Hewson of Hewson Bateman Associates (and well known from his time at Pico) take the reigns for the seminar: 'This Is Your Future; Diagnostics'. Engine management and diagnostics is a constantly evolving area and Dave was able to put his vast knowledge to good use when explaining how CANBus and FlexRay systems work and function, with particular focus on the latter, which can be found on the BMW X5. He believes this will soon represent the future of vehicle systems and it was interesting to get a look at a few examples of FlexRay oscilloscope patterns amongst other things.
Visitors were also given an education in hybrid vehicles and the performance potential that these have. If that wasn’t enough, Dave was on hand to comprehensively answer any questions about the subjects covered or to chat more about any other issues. If you’re keen on seeing the future, this is a seminar not to be missed!
"I found the seminars that I attended throughout the day helpful and informative and it is so useful to find out about what sort of technology will be coming into play in the near future. It is so important that the independent garage stays one step ahead."
Dave is an expert in Automotive Oscilloscopes, amongst other diagnostic tools. He is a petrolhead at heart and loves his work. He has spent the last six years working for Pico Techology with their automotive diagnostic kit and before that he has another 10 years technical experience working with scopes. He has presented numerous technical seminars to IMI members and various colleges and has now set up his own company, HBA, which offers training and consultancy to all in the automotive industry.
